Good morning from Bathurst. It is -30 C and here is a weather statement from Environment Canada that was for last night: Extreme Cold Warning. An arctic airmass will combine with strong northwest winds to give bitterly cold conditions. Windchill values of minus 40 to minus 47 are expected to develop Friday afternoon and will persist into Saturday morning before beginning to moderate Saturday afternoon as temperatures begin to warm up.
With this weather statement Ron was not going to risk grooming last night. He felt that it would be too dangerous. The only grooming was yesterday when we moved the piston bully down to East Bathurst from Rogers Lake for Servicing. Having said that we have a groomer broke down on The Line on trail 23 just down a few Kms from Nepisiguit Lodge. The New Holland has a wheel issue which will hopefully be fixed by Tuesday. The groomer is is on a straight stretch and is marked with safety cones. The other two groomers will be out tonight.
Safety message: With these frigid temperatures when on the trail is no time to be foolish and drive recklessly and possibly fall into an accident. With temperatures as low as they are will compound the situation if you break down or have an accident. Here are a couple of key points that you should observe: #1 slow down and drive safe. #2 don't ride alone. #3 tell your loved ones where you are going to be riding and when you're expected to be back.
