Update 8PM: I thought I would give you an update before tomorrow morning. I'm not sure what they were talking about as far as rainfall, but so far since this morning if we got 3 mm of rain, that would be stretching it. Looking at what their forecast for tonight is up to 10 mm of rain. Yes the snow levels greatly diminished due to plus 10 ° weather and the southerly winds. I will report at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning on what happened overnight here in Bathurst.
Update 1 PM: the question is; are we going to avoid a catastrophe? So far this morning we've had about 1 mm of rain with sun mix. It is 11 ° at post and the wind doesn't seem to be a factor at this point. You'll see what the rest of the day will bring as they are still calling for up to 10 mm of rain. Everybody keep their fingers crossed.
There was no grooming last night for obvious reasons. Our Thursday night Wings Night at the Nepisiguit Lodge is still on. This week's sponsors are Bathurst Tire and JJ Branch Contractors.
Well we will see what 10 to 20 mm of rain plus high south winds of 40Kph and gusts to 60Kph will do with a fragile trail base. We'll see after Friday morning what the trails look like. You can count on Ice buildup on the trails, because Thursday night temperatures will be dropping to -16. The trail base varies throughout the system, so we're thinking that all may not be lost. We'll be keeping a close eye on the system plus the weather over the next day and a half and we'll try to keep you informed as much as possible. Any input on the trails would be appreciated.
Looking at the rest of the province, Bathurst may fair out the best. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
