Thursday, Dec 17th, Club #1
We had two good days of -10 to -18 temperatures. It should make some difference in the soft spots, but groomer crossing would be questionable. We in dire need of snow in places, but we are seeing decent 12 to 18 up near Popple Depot and Governors. We still need a little more over the 503 from Popple Depot to Simpson Fields as there is a deep gully and a brook (Tower Brook) that we have to cross. It would be nice if we could get some feedback from sledders on this trail.
The Nepisiguit Sport Lodge Lottery is now 50% sold. Thank you so much to all those who have supported the fund raiser to date. This lottery is being held to replace lost revenue from our Wednesday night suppers held during the winter and two major fund raisers in March. These events raise about $45,000 annually and had to be cancelled for the 2021 season due to Covid 19 restrictions.
The revenue from the lottery is desperately needed to cover costs associated with trail maintenance through out the winter. Nepisiguit Snowmobile Club maintains about 300km of snowmobile trail at a very high level of quality. This requires the use of three groomers and an average of 2200 hours of grooming each season, which is the most by far than any other club in the province. The quality of the system draws snowmobilers from all over Atlantic Canada and results in significant tourism dollars estimated in recent studies to be 50 million per season in NB. A high percentage of this revenue is attributed to the Chaleur Region so this trail system is vital for job creation in our area. During a busy season there will be close to 5000 accommodations booked by snowmobilers in Bathurst and surrounding area. Nepisiguit actually has about 1500 annual members and 600 are from PEI and Nova Scotia.
We are asking all members of our club (1000 members still have not purchased their ticket), all corporations, all citizens who can to buy a $100 ticket to support our Tourism industry which we depend on here so much in the Chaleur Region. These make great Christmas gifts for your friends and relatives and you have a 1 in 27 chance to win a prize with just one ticket. The draw will take place on February 14th at the KC Irving Center.
